The Assembly – Sunshine on Leith

The Assembly – Sunshine on Leith

A huge well done to all the performers on The Assembly for a beautiful rendition.

The Assembly is a four-part docu-series that sees a group of autistic, neurodivergent and learning disabled people interview four well known celebrities. And crucially no topic is off limits.

David Tennant appeared on the Sunday 27th April episode at the end of which members of the group performed Sunshine on Leith.

Elsie Inglis Legacy – Proposed Edinburgh Statue

Elsie Inglis Legacy – Proposed Edinburgh Statue

Elsie Inglis was a revolutionary figure who fought tirelessly for gender equality and access to healthcare. The proposed statue fails to capture her spirit and achievements, and there is a campaign determined to ensure her legacy is honoured appropriately.

‘We are concerned about the focus on Elsie Inglis as a war time doctor, rather than on her lifelong commitment to women’s health.

We also believe that there is insufficient attention being paid to the historical importance of the site in High Street.

We wish the campaign success in bringing accuracy to the legacy of Elsie Inglis life ‘

You can lodge your objections on the Council website here:
https://citydev-portal.edinburgh.gov.uk/idoxpa-web/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=makeComment&keyVal=SSDX09EWJID00

Grounds for objection are:

  • Misrepresents Elsie Inglis’s Legacy: By focusing on her wartime contributions rather than her pioneering work in women’s healthcare and suffrage.
  • Disregards the Historical Significance of the Site: Ignoring the importance of 219 High Street, the location of The Hospice, her groundbreaking maternity hospital.
  • Lacks Artistic Merit and Public Engagement: Resulting from an opaque selection process that excluded female artists and community input.
  • Fails to Connect with Wider Educational and Community Initiatives: Missing an opportunity to inspire future generations and promote her values.
